Mati Diop, is a French-Senegalese filmmaker and actress.
Her debut feature,
Atlantics, won the grand prix at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival.
Atlantics is a vital and compelling piece of cinema. Diop’s storytelling challenges
the often inhumane handling of migration. Set in Dakar, Senegal, Diop’s characters - and the wider community - are shaped by an unfavourable socioeconomic
context. It’s the catalyst for a generation of Senegalese youth embarking
on treacherous journeys across the Atlantic, in search of a better life in Europe.
With the on-going migration discourse in Europe, we wanted to highlight the work of this Participante Muse. Here, explore her work.
